- EcoVadis 2024
Plastone has once again received a medal-worthy recognition for its sustainability in the EcoVadis assessment.
As part of the Saxo Group, we have been carbon negative since 2021, demonstrating our strong commitment to sustainability and the environment.
- Plastone Oy is planning a demerger
Plastone Oy plans ot separate its real estate operations into its own company. For this, Plastone Oy has registered a demerger plan ni the trade register on September 27, 2023.
- Plastone is participating the EU-funded PlastLIFE project as part of a consortium managed by SYKE.
In the project, Plastone develops the use of factory side streams for new products. There is already a recycling system for packaging plastics in Finland, but not for technical plastics. The challenge of recycling technical plastics is the countless different variations.
It is very difficult to mechanically recycle plastic parts returning from the use, because it is impossible to tell what plastic it is exactly. Even if the quality is marked, there are also countless variations that affect the processing of the plastic. Therefore, chemical recycling, i.e. returning plastic to its elements, is the only reasonable option. This is expensive and loses the fine properties of technical plastics, so it is not economically viable.
Plastone’s goal is to collect production side streams from manufacturers in the surrounding area, of which we know exactly what raw material they are, and to collect sufficient volumes from them for mechanical recycling. In mechanical recycling, the plastic product is ground into small pieces and melted again, and new products are made directly from it. For this purpose, the project also develops a new product or products suitable for such recycled materials, which will be delivered to the market through partners or group companies.
- Plastone Receives EcoVadis’ Silver Rating for Sustainability
Plastone, an international subcontracting company for plastic components has been awarded a Silver Sustainability Rating for its sustainability management and performance by EcoVadis. EcoVadis is a leading independent Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) evaluation company.
This follows Plastone’s achievement of being carbon neutral as part of Saxo group already since the beginning of 2021.
- ISO audit 2022 at Plastone
Plastone’s ISO 9001, 14001 and 13485 certificates have been updated again and the new certificates are already in use. SGS performed an audit in early February and the results were very positive as expected. The week-long audit was a big but rewarding effort from the entire staff.
All three certificates are valid in each of our units, both in Finland and Estonia. The new certificates are now also available for download under the quality and environment section.
- Plastone reorganizes its production activities in Estonia
Plastone reorganizes its production activities in Estonia and will merge the Saue production unit into the Tallinn plant by 1 January 2022. The purpose of merging the factories is to expand production activities and consolidate the competence and equipment of the plastics industry under one roof.
Peeter Mõrd, CEO of Plastone, notes that merging two factories in Estonia is an important step for the company. “The larger production area at the Tallinn plant creates conditions for growth, new investments and business development in Estonia. We consolidate the entire company’s competence and equipment under one roof, which simplifies production processes and makes supply chains more compact. This will allow us to offer our customers more flexible solutions,” says Peeter Mõrd.
According to the CEO, more than 1 million euros will be invested in restructuring and new equipment, which will improve the efficiency of core and support processes, reduce energy consumption and create new value for customers, partners and employees. Plastone offers jobs at the Tallinn plant to people working in the Saue production unit. Preparations for the relocation of the Saue plant are underway and the technology will be gradually transferred to Tallinn by the end of the year. Plastone will continue assembly work at the Haapsalu plant.
- Plastone together with Saxo group is carbon neutral now already from the beginning of 2021
Reducing CO2 emissions is an important topic internationally but also in our daily business. Couple of years ago at Saxo group was set a target of being carbon neutral by 2025. At that time this was very ambitious and many questioned if that is possible.
We did better than 2025 – We are already now in the beginning of 2021 carbon neutral in Saxo group.
Big part of this achievement was a switch at Plastone to use only energy produced from renewable sources both in Finland and Estonia.
Today we can offer genuinely sustainable alternative for our customers.
